I had a great trip down to the Twin Cities. I got to talk with some old friends about getting my novels set up as audio books. I had a pair of great days training with Grandmaster Kim and the other school masters. All my limbs are still attached and everything works. This was the first time that my business partners all made it down to a seminar, which was a real treat. I had meals with new friends and old, and got to stay with some of my oldest friends.
For the God Thought today I wanted to wrap up talking about things labeled “abomination” in Scripture.
So, things are wrong. The list is impressive. We all fall short of even this list of idolatrous and bad things. We are all saved by grace through Jesus Christ’s perfect life, death in our place, and resurrection to eternal life so that we can join him.
So the question comes up, now what? If we aren’t good enough, we don’t have the ability to be good enough, and we are relying on someone who was good in our place anyway, then what do we do about it? Change is really hard, and some of those things would make us choose to go with our culture or take a stand against our own society!
But here is the answer:
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in the newness of life. -Romans 6:1-4
It is stated in the negative once again in the New Testament:
For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of Grace? -Hebrews 10:26-29
So in the end, we have the rules that we can’t follow, and a pair of options. We have grace in Jesus Christ and his presence and help to go forward, or the option to use the free time to dig ourselves deeper and deeper into wrath by willing defiance of the rules.
Let us go forward with Christ, a seat reserved for us at the table, where love and life go forward forevermore!
